To Grow or Not To Grow?

In privately held businesses the need/desire to grow is complicated. Successful and established small business owners have a lot of freedom. They report to themselves and get to call the shots. They have a lot of flexibility in their schedule. Their business might be worth a few to many millions of dollars. They are personally earning hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Growth can be a threat to all of this. There is a lot to lose.

At DSBC we help our clients ease into the growth mindset by reminding our clients that they ultimately have the final say on new customers/new projects. There are tons of opportunities to pursue. If a prospect is not a good fit, then we will find another. If the owner hesitates, we slow the process. If ownership wants to suspend the project, we understand.

Growth is a lot of work. If it is pursued out of duress or panic, it does not go well. Business growth should be taken on freely. It requires focus, commitment, and a willingness to learn. If it is done correctly, it is fun, invigorating, and exciting.

When you approach business growth like this, the effort inspires and motivates the whole company. This is probably the best reason to choose to grow!
